Hi John,
I just started running about 15 months ago, after I gave up the pack-a-day for 28 years habit. The furthest I had ever run was 3.5 miles. I decided to do to the Brock with a bunch of my friends. I had no expectations... just wanted to FINISH.
Whenever I saw the beautiful scenes that we ran past, I realized how lucky I am. I thought of Brock (even though I did not know him) and I thought of you. What a great friend you have been to him to have created this race in his memory. As I ran by the horses, and past the beautiful mountains, I thought "Brock is looking down on all of us, and he is smiling, and he is pain-free, he is at peace". Then I realized that I was at peace because something was happening in my brain as I ran. All of our lives are crazy-busy and I don't think any of us really count our blessings as much as we should.
So, even though I did not know Brock personally, please know that your friend was the reason for my inner peace yesterday, and as I sit in my office today, I am reflecting on the run yesterday, and thanking Brock for this peace that is with me again, today and I am vowing to try to keep this peace with me until I cross the finish line again, next year.
Love,
Chris
